I AM ENGAGED! What do I need to start Booking and Buying?

Updated: Nov 12, 2023

  • First, Create a wedding email to keep all wedding related contacts together such as quotes and orders.

  • Do an Engagement Shoot to be used for save the dates. (See blog for NJ locations if you're local)

  • Create a budget. Sit down with everyone contributing so everyone’s on the same page. You can even create a separate wedding bank account to save and spend from.

  • Create a mock wedding guest list for numbers and an idea of bridal party.

  • Find a venue. Make sure you physically visit the venue and ask if they are planning any renovations around your date. If they don't offer catering/bartending, you will have to book them too.

  • Book your Hotel and make a block for guests. If you are getting ready at the hotel, book the night before as check in is usually in the afternoon.

  • Find a Church if applicable as well as an officiant.

  • Plan the Honey Moon or Mini-Moon. Even if it's at a hotel staying somewhere other than home is nice.

  • Start Wedding Dress shopping - Veil, Shoes, Shape Wear and Jewelry too. I purchased my jewelry and veil at the bridal salon because I was able to try them on with my dress on. (I went to Castle Couture).

  • Book your Mua and Hair (do a trial too). If you have short hair like I did and want your hair long or in an up-do, you can also plan for extensions. My hairdresser and friend Morgan turned my bob into the most beautiful up-do. (See photo in the about me sections).

  • Book Videographer, Photographer, DJ and Photo Booth. I am your go-to for Videography and Photo Booth needs.

  • Book your Florist. Choose colors - Ask her to make you a sample centerpiece. Decide where else you would like to decorate with flowers. Do you need boutonnieres and bouquets?

  • Create Wedding Guest List and Send out Save the Dates

  • Book limo/car if transportation is needed.

  • Order Wedding Cake if the venue does not provide one. Would you like a cake topper?

  • Book Day of Wedding Extraodinaire (DayofVows.com)

  • Book Rehearsal Dinner

  • Buy Wedding Bands

  • Get Tuxes if applicable (cuff links) watch -tie, bow tie, suspenders, socks

  • Shop for Wedding Party Dresses-Order Swatches online for colors.

  • Send out Invitations

  • Buy Getting Ready outfits ei. Robes and Slippers

  • Create a Seating Chart (when RSVP deadline arrives) and Assign Table Numbers

  • Order Favors, Seating chart, Wedding Signs

  • Create Meal Cards/Drink Menu if applicable

  • Order any cute personalized items such as "Pet Napkins" I am a huge Fan of incorperating your pets into the day!

  • File for your Marriage license as early as 90 days out.

  • Book Nail Appointment for the day before the wedding (even two if you get gel)

  • Prepare Tip Envelopes

  • Create Thank You Cards (If you want to get it out of the way)

  • Order Wedding day breakfast and lunch catering

  • Create personalized items like memorial with picture frames of family and friends who are no longer with you

  • Dance Lessons if needed

  • Card box, Cake Serving Set, Champagne Glasses (See Packing List in DayofVows Blog)

  • Bridal Party Gifts

  • Vows and couple Gifts

  • Make Bathroom Baskets (Easiest thing to delegate to a family member)

Please comment if you thought of something else and I left it out. Thank you for visiting my page. I hope this information is helpful in planning for your big day!
